Flight, la recensione in anteprima

“Robert Zemeckis? Da quanto tempo non vedevo il suo nome in tabellone! Fa ancora film?”. Si, fa ancora film, grandi film. Non gli sono bastati i successi del calibro di “Ritorno al futuro”, “Forrest Gump” e “Cast Away”. Si, è vero, gli sono serviti 13 anni per tornare al cinema. Ma nel frattempo non è stato con le mani legate. Ha realizzato tre motion capture.

E poi, diciamocela tutta. Il genio non segue tempi stabiliti dallo show business. Il genio si sveglia e crea la sua vita senza perdere mai di vista il beneficio delle sue azioni su quella altrui. Ma è il genio che stabilisce quando uscire e manifestarsi. Nel caso di Zemeckis, è sempre stato lui a scegliere quando (e come) uscire sui manifesti.

Gli aerei e la solitudine

Una cosa è certa: il signor Robert Zemeckis ha un grosso senso della circolarità. Tredici anni fa, il suo “Cast Away” si è chiuso con l’immagine di un uomo che respira la sua solitudine, locato su un’isola deserta dopo un incidente aereo spaventoso. Oggi, Zemeckis riparte proprio da un incidente aereo. Il protagonista di questo ritorno è un certo Denzel Washington, solo anche lui.

Questa volta, insomma, per Zemeckis è un ritorno al passato. Ha scelto di narrare la storia di un pilota d’aerei che deve scontare una pena molto pesante: fare i conti con sé stesso. Quale miglior appiglio per tornare a realizzare film con personaggi in carne ed ossa dopo il periodo ‘sperimentale’?

“Flight” è così, in fondo. Un lungo viaggio nell’animo umano sulla tratta che porta dal peccato alla redenzione. E il protagonista di “Flight”, Whip Whitaker, deve condurre la sua vita verso un approdo sicuro. Per farlo, però, dovrà salvare diverse vite, che possiamo immaginare come pezzi di un puzzle che rimarrà per sempre incompleto.

Denzel Washington ha molto in comune con i precedenti protagonisti delle riprese di Zemeckis. Una malinconia negli occhi che il suo Whip Whitaker condivide con Forrest Gump, ad esempio. E in più beve, come Eddie Valiant, il detective di “Roger Rabbit” (altro capolavoro del Nostro).

Vedete? Tutto torna, soprattutto quando ti chiami Robert Zemeckis.

Whip, dunque è un pilota. Ma è anche un marito, un padre e un alcolizzato. Ha tutte le carte in regola, insomma, per diventare un eroe. Un eroe come Forrest Gump che trapassa sotto i suoi piedi i due estremi dell’America con la velocità di una spada? Si, se volete. Per noi, però, Whip è un eroe a 30.000 piedi d’altezza. L’eroe che salva tanta gente da uno schianto. Un po’ per caso, un po’ perché il Karma fortunatamente è sempre lucido.

Il giudizio del CineManiaco

Per la sesta volta Denzel Washington è in nomination per gli Oscar. Meritata. Denzel è un numero uno. Zemeckis lo è ancora. “Flight” è un volo verso la libertà dell’anima. Raggiungerla vuol dire bersi i compromessi prima di annegare nel bicchiere più grande che esiste: il mare. Immaginatevi, dunque, di assistere a una corsa contro il destino, come quella di Forrest Gump, dove le scelte si prendono da sbronzi e le vite da salvare sono in carne ed ossa (non più come in Roger Rabbit). Questo è altro, in “Flight”, solo per i più temerari.
